Robert G. Callahan, II

Attorney, Author, Advocate and Speaker

Robert Callahan is the author of Fire in the Whole: Embracing Our Righteous Anger with White Christianity and Reclaiming Our Wholeness, a groundbreaking exploration of faith, justice, and the righteous anger of marginalized Christians. With the mind of a lawyer, the heart of a theologian, and the rhythm of a storyteller, Callahan challenges audiences to rethink the church’s complicity in white supremacy, patriarchy, and exclusion—and invites them to imagine a faith that heals what has been broken.

Callahan is a practicing attorney and partner at Callahan & King, PLLC in Waco, Texas, where, among other areas of practice, he represents survivors of gender-based violence and religious abuse. He is also a former public prosecutor and lifelong advocate for the marginalized. His work sits at the intersection of faith, justice, race, and trauma. As a speaker and teacher, he is known for his incisive wit, depth of insight, and prophetic voice. He does not flinch from hard truths but delivers them with humor, hope, and humanity.

Robert has spoken at conferences, churches, universities, and summits across the country, including the Broken to Beloved Summit, bar associations, and congregations seeking to create space for hard conversations around justice and reconciliation. He is particularly passionate about reaching communities who have been harmed or disillusioned by toxic Christianity—and offering language, theology, and imagination to help them reclaim their wholeness.

He has written for Duke Divinity School, spoken on podcasts and panels about spiritual abuse and racial justice, and continues to serve as a thought leader for those navigating life post-deconstruction. His speaking topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Righteous Anger as a Holy Response

  • The Legal and Moral Framework of Church Abuse

  • The Role of Whiteness in American Christianity

  • Raising Biracial Children in a Racially Broken Church

  • Spiritual Abuse and the Language of Healing

  • Christianity, Justice, and the Law

  • Praying While Angry: Contemplative Practices for the Wounded

  • Loving the Church You’re Healing From

Whether speaking to law students or seminary classrooms, churches or book clubs, Robert brings clarity, conviction, and care to every conversation. He is available for keynotes, workshops, panels, and guest lectures in academic, religious, or social justice spaces.
